PTNSHIFT

For Ableton Push 2 & 3

PTNSHIFT combines the deep sonic universe of modular synthesis with DJ-style interactions like pattern-launching, mixing, blending and FX.

Prepare, develop and curate patterns in Note mode. Switch to Session mode to perform live.

PTNSHIFT's generative music engine delivers expressive sound-system-ready output. Simple but powerful pattern controls manipulate parametric sequencers, poly-modulated synthesis, flexible FX and a multiband mixing and mastering engine.

A unique approach for a stand‑out sound

SLOO’s revolutionary architecture delivers huge sonic structures, deep animated bass, insane arpeggios and complex polyrhythms. It’s about getting that signature sound in seconds.

System Requirements

  • PTNSHIFT requires a full license of Native Instruments' Reaktor. If you have any Komplete 11 or later bundle you will have this and will need to install it before running PTNSHIFT.
  • PTNSHIFT requires a computer with a modern CPU to run smoothly. CPUs with a single-core Geekbench score greater than 2000 are recommended. Check Windows CPU benchmarks here. Check Apple CPU benchmarks here.
  • The companion app for MacOS requires Ventura or later.
  • It is recommended to run PTNSHIFT with a minimum buffer size of 512. The best results are achieved with a 1024 sample buffer size.
  • PTNSHIFT's license permits you to create, publish and make money from finished music created with PTNSHIFT. It does not permit the sale of stems, sample packs or other creative content created with PTNSHIFT, with the exception of Pattern Packs for use within PTNSHIFT itself.

The Story

Tim Exile's face against a Blue Sky
Tim Exile

I've been building electronic music live performance tools for 20 years. This is the next evolution in that lineage, crafted with the same love and obsession that I’ve poured into all my previous instruments.

My previous live rigs sprawled multiple MIDI controllers. They were a nightmare to travel with and even harder to share. So in the name of portability, PTNSHIFT’s workflow is origami'd into the powerful and ubiquitous Ableton Push 2 & 3.

For a decade, my Flow Machine live-looping instrument took me everywhere from Berghain to the TED red dot. It was a cool trick to pick music out of thin air and an absolute thrill when it worked. But there was always a sacrifice in quality. My 'hit rate' for a good show was well under 50%!

Those days gave me a yearning for an instrument that occupied a sweet spot between pre-planning and improvisation. PTNSHIFT is my answer to that.

It’s also inspired in no small way by Autechre who I think are shining examples of this approach. There’s so much new territory to explore in the world of generative live performance. I'm thrilled to be a part of the advance party.
